Funding will begin in summer 2016 for implementing high quality prekindergarten programs for school year 2016-2017, under House Bill 4, 84th Legislature. Also, school officials will have opportunities to provide input to the Texas Education Agency in fall 2015 on various items connected to House Bill 4 including:
- Review and update the 2008 Prekindergarten Guidelines
- Identify model family engagement strategies
- Establish a list of commissioner approved prekindergarten assessment instruments
- Determine high-quality prekindergarten teacher qualification requirements
- Develop additional prekindergarten professional development opportunities
- Adopt commissioner’s rules for the implementation of the high-quality grant program established in HB 4
- Develop new reporting requirements on early childhood and prekindergarten programs
