In reference to unaccompanied immigrant children and the role of local public schools in providing education-related services, the Texas Education Agency posted guidelines yesterday on this topic that were developed by the United States Department of Education. According to the TEA announcement, the issues and topics covered in the guidelines "mirror the information provided by TEA General Counsel David Anderson during his recent testimony to the Select Committee on the Fiscal Impact of Texas Border Support Operations." The guidelines can be accessed at web page http://www2.ed.gov/policy/rights/guid/unaccompanied-children.pdf.
The TEA announcement also mentioned that updated instructions will be released, as needed, as public schools proceed to enroll unaccompanied immigrant children for the 2014-2015 school year. The TEA announcement can be accessed at the web page http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index4.aspx?id=25769815330
