Final financial accountability ratings for more than 1,200 school districts and charters across the state were released by the Texas Education Agency, on December 1, 2017.

The School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), created by the 77th Texas Legislature in 2001, is designed to encourage public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.
According to the TEA announcement, twenty-two of the twenty-eight school districts were successful in their appeals of their preliminary FIRST ratings, and six of nine charters were successful with their appeals.
