On October 31, 2017, Governor Abbott delivered a $61 billion, 282-project wish list to the U.S. Congress, asking for federal aid for repairs to public infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Harvey in addition to projects to help protect Texas from future disasters. The wish list covers a multitude of local government needs, including many school districts' repair needs, such as $15 million to repair and replace the Port Aransas ISD's instructional campuses and other facilities. The $61 billion is based upon the best information available as of September and October 2017 and is likely to increase. Abbott's request is contained in a publication titled Rebuild Texas, Request for Federal Assistance Critical Infrastructure Projects, that was issued by John Sharp, Commissioner of Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas.
