The Government Finance Officers Association recently announced the governmental entities that received the Certificate of Achievement in Excellence in Financial Reporting in 2015 (for the fiscal year ended 2014). Texas was represented well with 78 winners of the 550 total number of school districts nationwide that were recognized. GFOA established the CAFR Program in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure, to help them do so, and to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
