Critical Reading on Public School Attendance, Admission, Enrollment, Withdrawals and Tuition

By Thomas Canby posted 08-17-2015 08:56

Last week, the General Counsel of the Texas Education Agency released communications on requirements in law related to public school attendance, admission, enrollment, withdrawals and tuition. One communication is applicable to all Texas public schools and a separate communication is applicable to topics that are unique to open-enrollment charter schools.

The annual communications from TEA General Counsel on these topics are critical reading. Failure to follow the requirements for instructional settings, procedures, processes and reporting student information through the Public Education Information Management System may result in the loss of state and/or federal funding, and in the worst case scenario noncompliance may result in accreditation sanctions.
