Optional Flexible School Day Program Funding Bill Passes on Texas Senate Floor and Heads to House Public Education

Senate Bill 496 by Kirk Watson was passed on the Senate floor on third reading and was referred to the House Public Education Committee. The bill would require that funding for student attendance in an optional flexible school day program be based on the two-hour and four-hour requirements that are required to earn half-day and full-day regular program attendance rather than six hours contact time currently required to earn a full day of attendance under the optional flexible school day program. The bill would enable students in optional flexible school day programs to earn a full day of attendance for 240 minutes of instruction rather than the 360 minutes of instruction currently required to earn a full day of attendance under the existing calculation.
