Friday marked the 60th day of the 84th session and the deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills, emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an emergency by the governor.
Preliminary information on Texas Legislature Online (TLO) indicates there have been: 4,114 House Bills and 1,993 Senate Bills filed for a total of 6,107 HB’s & SB’s. Of these, TASBO is tracking 1,138 bills relating to education or 19% of the total bills filed.
In comparison to the previous legislative session, on the 60th day the preliminary information showed 3,853 House Bills and 1,811 Senate Bills for a total of 5,664 HB’s & SB’s. The 83rd Regular Session ended with 3,950 House Bills and 1,918 Senate Bills being filed. We can likely expect more bills to be filed as the session progresses.
